Hello,
I am studying for my data center CCNP, and I have the following questions:
Normally, if you boot the UCS from SAN, you specify the Target WWPN in the vHBA either in the CIMC vHBA's Boot Table or in the UCSM Boot Order Policy. But what if I have a server that boots from local disks and uses the remote FC Storage only for data?
Do I have to manually put the Target WWPN in the vHBAs? If yes, do I put in the CIMC vHBA's Boot Table/UCSM Boot Order Policy even though I don't want it to boot from it? Do I do this at the OS level? Or would it be at the "Persistent Bindings" button? Is there a way for the HBA to ask the upstream switch about what targets are available based on the zoning (so no manually configuring the Target's WWPN)?
One thing that interests me is that once we specify the Target WWPN on the Boot Table or via UCSM Boot Order, the server also sees the other LUNs, and I am curious how it learns those other LUNs.
