UCS C-Series Server with UCSM Integration Discovery Failure

Hi all,

Attempting to connect two new C240-M5 (with VIC 1457 MLOM) to existing UCS.   M5s are connected in dual wire to redundant/HA FEX (one uplink to each FEX).  We are using port 1 and 3 on the VIC to connect up to FEX.

UCS / FI 6454 are running 4.0(4k).  We have M3 C-Series in this environment and are attempting to replace with M5.

Server 1, the discovery process fails during BMC inventory collection phase.

Server 2, UCS does not even see the server.  No port information on FEX.

We have attempted to downgrade the f/w on the M5 by direct connecting CIMC to management switch, but still no go.

Maybe VIC 1457 is not supported with UCS-M 4.0.(4k)?

Thanks!

M5s with 1457 MLOMs are supported on 4.04k

However, depending on your cabling, there are some issues with certain 25Gb qsfp/sfps, in that code range, that prevent discovery from occurring.

You mention 'fex'.  What model of 'fex' do you have connected to to your 6400 series FI (i.e. 2348UPQ, 2232PP, etc)?

With FEX involved, it may require 4.21 level code.

Probably need to open a TAC case to see what is going on.

Hi Kirk,

The FEX are 2232PP.

The uplinks were are using are Cisco 37-0960-03 (SFP-H10GB-CU1M SFP Direct Attach Twinax Copper Cable 1M).
