UCS C220 M4 Raid

Hi Guys, i've been asked for this server hardware config

1 x C220 M4

2 x Sas disks Raid 1

6 x Sata SSD Raid 5

Am i right when i said we only need the raid 5 software key for this to work or am i missing something

Not sure if you can mix sas drives in with embedded software raid controller:https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/c220m4-sff-spec-sheet.pdf#G3.1133989 

--You can choose only SATA HDDs when using embedded software RAID.

--Also VMware does not support software based raid controller.

If you are installing redhat or related variant, make sure the version you are looking at, for sure, has the megaSR driver/module included, as there were some versions (seems like 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, etc) where they stopped supporting it.

 

Personally, I would avoid the embedded software raid, and purchase an actual hardware raid solution (i.e. UCSC-MRAID12G )
