UCSC-C240-M4S2
Bios: C240M4.4.1.2f.0.1024230116
Installed a new UCSC-SAS12GHBA card to replace the cisco raid card and now the fan policy is overridden with the error "12gb sas modular pass through controller present" informing me this is an unknow card with the question mark sign/logo. I am forced into high power when I could previously use low power. Furthermore I don't think there's is any possibility that the HBA could result in higher thermals than the raid card...
All components are up to date from using the latest HUU. This is pretty unacceptable to me as I specifically sought out this card to alleviate any fan policy problems. I am aware how difficult cisco is or has been in this area which prompted me to purchase a card supported in the official documentation.
Any advice would be welcome, and thank you.

I forgot to mention the card is present in the PID catalog:
HBA | UCSC-SAS12GHBA | 0x1000 | 0x0090 | 0x1137 | 0x0155 |

Does anyone know if there a document such as this but for the M4 series?

Hello,
I have the same exact card and issue. Were you able to resolve this?
I can't get the fans below high power

The Cisco PID UCSC-SAS12GHBA has supported in the C240 M4 and has been on the C240 M4 spec sheet for a long time (since CIMC 2.0(4c) released in 2015).
Have you tried Balanced power or only low power?
The M4 platform is now end of support after a decade in the field.
My guess is the temperature of the HBA is increasing above recommended value causing the fans to spin up to decrease the HBA temperature. But without logs that is simply a guess.
Feel free to grab a CIMC tech support bundle to know if temperature is what is causing the fans to spin up.
