I studied Microbiology in college, where for 4 years my life were centered around studying the tiniest elements in cells and viruses. Naturally, I carried these interests out of college and directly into a career in networking. Actually, my interests have always centered around systems and how the complex interactions between various elements are manifest in the functions they seek to carry out. As in the life sciences, networking is about understanding the interactions between various systems, and controlling this behavior to allow optimal interaction.
