stewart-ian, I second your questions. I'm struggling with the same issue on a new 4331 router. If there is a new way to enter the syntax, that would be my preferred path. However, I'm not finding any way to do so.
In case someone else runs into this issue. There is a known bug for CER versions 8.5(1) & 8.6(1). It is fixed in CER version 9.0.2.https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCua66336The workaround is to make the first switch the master.
