Hello,
We are wanting to get some Cisco IP Phones (namely the Cisco SPA525G2) at some of our workers homes, which would connect via VPN to our central office which has an ASA 5510.
Within our network we have asterisk setup, and some other brand softswitches and session border controllers. We have our own internal telephone network which we currently use with software sip phones.
My question is, are Cisco IP phones configurable / usable with SIP connections to asterisk and any other softswitches? Or do they only function exclusively with a CUCM or Cisco Voice device (which we dont have either of)?
Thanks!

Hi
Cisco SIP Firmware Release is designed and tested to interoperate with Cisco Call control applicaiton only. Although SIP firmware is IETF RFC 3261 compliant, it is not supported by Cisco TAC or Engineering for use with non-Cisco call control systems.

Hi Ronak,
Thanks, what exactly does this mean? That it will work but its just not supported by TAC / support, or does it simply not work at all? A Cisco IP phone cannot be used with Asterisk / other open source softswitches/PBX's?

Hi, actually think ive found my own answer.
This official Cisco document "Configuring Cisco SPA5xx IP Phones in an Asterisk® Environment" explains how this is done
http://ftp.shlink.de/manuals/SPA5xx_Asterisk-web-UI_101909.pdf
"By the end of this document, you will be able to install a SPA5xx IP phone to register against an
Asterisk server and will be able to make and receive calls with your new phone"
