Why is expansion port for UC540? How does it differ from the WAN port? Is it possible to use the expansion port on the role of WAN port?

That port is used to connect your switches.

With the appropriate configuration, you can use it for anything.

This means that the expansion port - a port of the 3rd level and supports

subinterface? Can WAN port to support subinterface?

No it's purely a layer 2 itnerface. So you do layer 3 config using VLAN interface..

Instread, the wan port support subinterfaces being a layer3 interface.

Thank you for your help

Tell me where you can read about these features. Or is it just personal experience?

On cisco.com, search "configuiring vlan" for routers that have a switch module, eg 870, ISR with ESW switch module, and many others.

Thanks for the nice rating and good luck!
