up !

I have the same problem!!!

do you can resolve?

Thanks

hi rodtorres,

i waited to answer you because, I was waiting an answer by CISCO support !

Now I can tell you that :

from CISCO tell me  NO SOLUTION !!

is a know bug of software but if you have a support contract or warranty CISCO replace you the phone ... instead NOTHING !!!

It is a bad way to support the clients !!!!

I have make a "flame" mail to Small Buisness Support and I hope that many people make it to explain to CISCO how is the Support of Customer !!!

Because, I think, is not accettable to relase a update that brick a phone and the CISCO have no solution to resolve a situation... !!

stay tuned !!!

Localization thinks are known to be able turn Cisco phone into brick.

Even typo in Dictionary Server Script option can brick the code (I didn't tested it by self, obviously). Read SPA504G won't boot up after misconfiguration

Cisco guys never responded.

I assume that the code handling localization is buggy and phone may abend during load of dictionaries. It may be caused by either typo in Dictionary Server Script option, or by broken dictionary files or by wrong dictionary files (dedicated to other firmware that the one you are using or different model).

As phone firmware abends during boot all the times, you have no access to either WWW UI nor phone's local menu. So there is no way to delete cached dictionary files nor the phone's configuration. There is way to do nothing.

So phone is effectively dead. SOS recovery procedure doesn't apply here as there is valid firmware image inside the phone. In advance, even SOS recovery procedure seems not to delete saved configuration nor cached dictionary files.

  • If you have support contract, open ticket with Cisco. You can try to open ticket even without suppport contract. But you should not put so much hope into it.
  • If the phone is covered by warranty, return it to seller. Don't disclose the issue has been caused by  configuration to them.
  • You are out of luck otherwise as far as I know.

Note that not only broken/inappropriate files may render the phone unusable. Also improper configuration may cause the same result. I have a SPA508 that I downgraded to older firmware. Such dowgrade has been succesfull, but the firmware choke on saved configuration (saved configuration is not deleted during update). So phone is just brick now - like your phone. Cisco is not willing even confirm that misconfiguration may brick the phone forever. So no one should expect it will be patched.

hallo Dan Thanks to your answer,

I have contact Cisco and They told me to try to use a recofer firmware ... but as you wrote is not a solution.

I hope in a solution as software to make an exploit to send command to make a factory restore or another solution.

It's strange that a important Company as Cisco have a products without a factory reset hardware , and is so simple to brick a phone in a operation as change language !!

I'm waiting a CISCO solution ...or a solution by anyone of forum !!

bye

Max

They told me to try to use a recofer firmware

>=2 years ago, the advices from Cisco guys has been mostly compenent and helpfull. And even if the first advice did not solved the issue, they has been willing to work with technically skilled end user to search for solutions. They has been curious to found issue's cause and discover a solution. They has just been interested to make firmware good.

But in last two year, with new SMB TAC, I can't say anything good about the Cisco support. No one is responding in community forum anymore. SMB TAC advices are mostly incompetent, it's obvious that they don't understand the matter nor how the device si working. Their main goal is to convince users that error is not on Cisco's side.  Regardless of the particular case and information supplied by user.

Don't wait for Cisco so long - if you can return device to the seller, do it before the warranty become expired.

thanks

but my phone is out of warranty !

I hope this discussion is an incentive to Cisco Guys to find a solution !!

bye

Massimiliano

Good luck!
