UC320 Dial plans for the UK

Setting up a UC320 in the UK and it offers two options for the local phone numbers of 6 or 8 digit numbers.

The problem is that there are 6, 7 or 8 digit local numbers with 3,4 or 5 digit area codes. Within 20 miles of methere are all three of these options - Coventry 024 xxxx xxxx, Leicester 0116 xxx xxxx and Market Harborough 01858 xxx xxx.

What do I choose for Leicester  - or indeed any of the many large cities in the UK with a 4+7 digit number.

Thanks all.

James

Dear Mike;

Is the code input before or after the call is established?

Can you please explain in detail the dialing steps you follow? Would like to understand potential root for the failure.

Regards
Alberto

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for your response.

What is happening is:

  • We dial an outgoing external number. Press 9 then dial the number.
  • When the other party answers and automated message asks for a login pin and then to press # after the pin.
  • We enter the pin and press #
  • The other parties automated system says they didn't recognise what was entered.

Inititally we thought it might be the end users system having problems but using analogue or mobile (cell) phones works fine.

We then tried another company we use for conferencing and exactly the same problem.

It seems that if you need to press the # key while already on the call its not sending the right signal to the end party.

Let me know if I can help anymore.

The setup is:

  • UC320W
  • 6 SPA504G phones
  • 4 fxo ports being used

Thank you.

Thanks for the explanation Mike, last question. which firmware version are you using?

This looks like a DTMF issue. We have corrected many of those so would like to see if new firmware solves the issue or whether this is new.

Regards
Alberto

It's version 2.0.9 (3) we are using

Thanks for your help.

Hi Mike;

There is new firmware available, but let me check if this issue is corrected by upgrading the firmware or whether other tools like gain or impedance matching would help as well. Stay tuned

Regards
Alberto

Hi Mike,

There is a issue that our support engineers are working where some gain adjustments to DTMF digits are required when using FXO lines from BT.  We hope to be able to make a PMF available in the next few days to address this issue.  This might be similar to the problem you are seeing.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks to you both.

Can you let me know when a fix is available and I will try it. .

I will report back with whether it's helped or not.

If you need me to test or answer anything let me know

Hi,

There were some adjustments made to the UK locale settings and dial plan in the UC320W 2.1.0 Release Candidate firmware.  Which firmware version are you currently running?

Thanks,

Chris

The problem is that there are 6, 7 or 8 digit local numbers with 3, 4 or 5  digit area codes.

The UK uses 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 digit local numbers and uses 2, 3, 4 and 5 digit area codes.

Numbers are either 9 or 10 digits long.

The digit count does NOT include any leading 0 access code or +44 country code digits.

Within 20 miles of me there are all three of these options - Coventry 024 xxxx xxxx, Leicester 0116 xxx xxxx and Market  Harborough 01858 xxxxxx.

Those are 2, 3 and 4 digit area codes with 8, 7 and 6 digit local numbers, respectively.

Ofcom calls these formats  2+8, 3+7 and 4+6.

Other valid formats include 4+5, 5+5 and 5+4, and all are still in use in the UK for geographic numbers.

There are also 0+10, 0+9 and 0+7 numbers in the non-geographic ranges.

NDO numbers in geographic number ranges also use the 0+10 format.
