UC500 with ATA/FXO

Hi ,

I have a customer with two sites.

The main site will have the UC500 ... in the remote site they are having two IP handsets, which is easy enough.

At the remote site the customer has two PSTN lines.

Can we use an ATA with FXO or a small gateway to connect these back to the UC500?

If so what is the configuration for this?

What type of ATA or gateway should we use?

We do not have a supported (TAC) deployment model that covers this situation. You may want to look into the recently announced SPA8800, and try to use the configuration guidelines that we posted for the SPA8000. You will still need a VPN between the two sites, of course.

You can do this and it would require a fair bit of CLI work to get it done, but you have to ask if in the end it is worth it or not, the problem with this type of setup is that it can go up and down a fair bit and it will be quite reliant on the ATA's ability to manage analogue to IP conversion with mininmal troubles and then push it over a VPN connection to the Head Site.

To have the IP phones on the remote site talking back to the UC500, you would just need a Linksys PoE switch there and a VPN connection back to the UC500, the phones will work that way so long has you have it all setup right.

I would strongly advise you not to go down the path of using an ATA at the remote site, unless of course you are happy to provide an endless amount of support for such a configuration.
