I have a UC540 with a VIC2-4FXO installed for a total of 8 FXO ports and 7 SPA525G2 phones. When placing or receiving calls on any port there is noticeable static / noise in the background. I've verified with a plain analog phone that the lines sound fine. My customer is also complaining about the external party sounding "distant" or muffled. I've played with the gain and attenuation to no avail.

Check that impedence is correct for your country. There are also procedure to find the correct one if not know beforehand.

I was able to get some improvement by changing impedance but not enough to satisfy the client.
