2901 terminal server questions

I've read the other posts regarding terminal servers and they've helped me move along but I can't quite get past this one hiccup.  When I try to connect to the one switch I'm testing with it appears to connect but then I never get the prompt> for being connected to the other switch.  I have 12 of my 16 ports connected and I haven't found anything special for the console port on the remote device that needs to be set.  Just the username/password line for login local.

Trying CoreSw1 (172.58.1.1, 2009)... Open

Authorized access only.  All access is monitored

What am I missing?  It seems to connect but there is no prompt.  I've turned on telnet debug on the remote device and don't see any hits so i'm curious if maybe I"m sending out the right port but 2009 should be the first connection on the octo for this card.  it lists 0-7 on the bottom row and 8-15 on the top.  Unless something in the show line changes that count.

Hi,

I haven't used TTY ines for years but I do use the AUX port of my routers to connect to consoles

my AUX port config is defaults to 9600

line Aux 0

 transport input telnet
 transport output all

so can you try connecting one of your devices to the Aux port, then telnet to 172.58.1.1 2001

in my case prompts for username /password enter, then press enter again I get another prompt from the target device for username/password, then I am in

HTH

Richard.

The new switches don't have an aux port they have a 10/100/1000 Mgmt port (4500 and 3850).  I will try the connection to one of the router's aux port but the puzzling part of what i'm seeing on the switches is that it accepts the username/password and says okay then doesn't respond to input and never shows a cursor or command line prompt.

Hi,

The username/password prompt you are seeing is the prompt from your 2901 to access the port, you then get a second prompt from the device.

Another thought , are you using the flat blue console cable to connect to the console ports? as these are crossover type RS232 cables , a standard one to one Ethernet cable will not work..

I'm using the octo-cables that came with the router.

Ok, they will connect directly to console ports.

in the line command can you change "no exec" to "exec" and see what happens
