I might be behind the times here but any advice would be appreciated. I have a new Windows 7 laptop and I cannot install the Cisco VPN client software. It complains that it isn't true 64-bit. I have tried compatability mode and running as administrator but to no avail. Is there a version of the client that will install onto Windows 7. If so, where can I get it? Ther version I am trying to use is - 5.0.02.0090.
Thanks - Simon (UK)

Simon:
Cisco VPN Client does not support 64bit OS. If your backend is ASA then there is a new client from cisco Any connect you can download from the cisco's web site.
But if you are using VPN Concentrator, cisco doesn't have any 64bit clients.
You can use Shrew soft from http://www.shrew.net, which is free, and follow the instructions accordingly. If you have .pcf file you can import into the shrew client.

Fantastic advice! I couldn't even get the current version of the x64 VPN client to install despite spending a couple of hours working on it. Installed the Shrew VPN client, imported my .pcf file and it worked like a charm. No more dodgey Cisco VPN client for me! Thanks

Ikram.
I know this is a really, really old reply - but I just wanted to say a huge thanks for that link.
I was having *major* issues with getting my VPN client to work on my 3G card under Windows 7 64 bit - the Cisco client for Windows 7 works fine when I'm connected to a wired link, but I could *not* get it working on 3G.
I installed the Shrew client, imported my .pcf from my Cisco client, and it worked first go.
This is possibly the most useful hint I've ever received from these support forums - if I could vote you 10 stars I would!
Thanks again!
Cheers

There is 64-bit client available. Failing that you can always use VPNC (sourceforge). It's excellent and doesn't require a firewall!

I have used this client ( freeware ) with 64 bit vista , windows 7 & xp . works well -- no issues --- understands pcf file , works perfect with cisco ( tested on asa and 7204 ). Try shrewsoft available for free at shrew.net .
thanks

You really managed to configure that client? What VPN Server you used: router or ASA?

Works Excellent!!!.. I have tried it myself.
2.1.7-release is very good.
Use your original pcf file and import... and click connect. Login. Done.
