Cisco Quadcam without Codec

Afternoon everyone!

Our company recently received this Cisco Quadcam unit with a Touch 10 tablet. We figured setup would be the same compared to the Cisco Webex Room Kit that we have at our other locations but it seems to be requesting on the camera a Codec.

Right now the camera is displaying on our TV: Camera is not paired with codec and may need a software upgrade. Please check camera to codec connection.

Now we don't have a Cisco Codec on our network. Do we actually need it for the Quadcams or can you set it up without it? Also if a Codec is needed does it allow multiple Quadcams to be on the same Codec or do we need a different one per Quadcam unit?

How did you order just the camera and tablet? Typically, its a package deal with a room kit plus or room kit pro? I would really be interested to know how that order made it through with no one questioning it.

That aside, the reason the standard room kit works with just the camera bar is the codec is embedded into the hardware. The quad camera is just an HDMI camera, speakers, and microphones. It has no codec or processing internal to the device.

You are now going to need either the Room Kit Plus or the Room Kit Pro codec to make use of this camera. These two support multiple cameras, and yes they can have two quad cameras attached with some caveats. Speaker tracking is not really going to work, and some macros would need setup to make best use of both together for video and sound. Otherwise, they would be fine with just manual control.

I'm pretty sure our other kits are room kit plus. All we had to do was plug them into our network and register them to our account to set them up. once the touch 10's had the 16 digit code and the camera tied to them there was no issues. The kits we have installed currently are ones that came with a single camera, Pictured here: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/collaboration-endpoints/spark-room-kit/model.html

If we attach two cameras to the Codecs will we be able to use them separately in different room meetings or can you only use them together?

The cameras are essentially a slave to the codec, so you wont be able to have two separate meetings but they will be able to function as two camera feeds for a single meeting.

The room kit is an all in one device, with the codec embedded.
The room kit plus is the quad camera with the codec external to the camera.
