does anyone know how to use text messaging in the webex app? apparently in the "what's new" section... Version 42.12 we can now send and receive text messages?

This feature is available only to Enterprise customers. Online customers are currently not eligible to use business texting.
WHY?!
We have to use a 3rd party company called Text Request to SMS our Cisco numbers - would be great if it was all in one.

If you have Webex Calling and Cisco PSTN, then you first must enable this in control hub. See this link for further information: Enable Business Texting (webex.com)

Business Texting (video demo) is available on Webex Calling multi-tenant Locations configured to use the Cisco Calling Plan (i.e. Cisco is the PSTN carrier directly) and currently limited to the US & Canada. Expansion to other countries and/or Cloud Connect partners (f.k.a. Cloud-Connected PSTN Providers) are forward-looking roadmap items that would require an NDA to discuss.
