Folks,

Can someone please tell me why there is a limit of 8 SSIDs on the ac module of a 3600 series AP.

"Only the first 8 WLAN IDs are advertised on the 5-GHz radios regardless of the ID number"

It comes down to hardware limitation, the 802.11ac Radio Module for the 3600 series was the first 802.11ac (Wave1) solution Cisco provided before they released the 1700/2700/3700 series AP's that comes standard with these features building in.

This is normally the problem you have with a product that provides a new technology (at that time) released early into the market.

this is also by software design

WLANS are sent out each with its own radio MAC address

each AP can send out max 16 WLAN's / SSIDs

each 2,4GHz SSID from base radio MAC address + WLAN index

each 5GHz SSID from from base radio MAC address + 16 - WLAN index

so technically you may be able to send out 16 ac (5GHz) SSID's, but processing power may pose extra limitations
