Help needed setting up access point to public network

Hi from a newbie,

Assuming they are suitable, I want to use one (or two) AP1232AG-E-K9 access points for Internet connection through a public wireless network (BTFON), where wire broadband is not an option. I've downloaded what I think is the correct manual for the APs and I'm now scratching my head as to where and how to start setting them up. I want to use these Cisco APs in the hope they will give me better wireless performance than I'm currently getting, which is frequently flakey.

I've tried to reset the APs to the factory default but there seem to be different ways of doing this depending on what you want and what you've got. I made up a console cable  to access the console but there even appear to be different versions of  this so I'm not sure if the cable I have is the correct one.

I have setup and used lower end wireless devices in the past but these Cisco units seem real complicated and I'm going to need help in getting them working.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Glenn.

I've got a spare PC with a fresh copy of Win XPSP3 and anti-virus installed on it with very little else, so I'll make that available for TeamViewer.

However, there are several ways to use/setup TeamViewer, please can you advise the options you require:

  • Install TeamViewer onto PC  or Run without installation.
  • I will select personal/non-commercial use unless that is a problem for you?
  • Choose installation type - No( default)  or  Yes
  • Access Control - Full access (recommended)  or Confirm all
  • Install VPN adapter Yes  or   No (default)

Thanks.

Najaf,

Are you still there???

Apologies if I seem impatient

Glenn.

Sorry Mate,

I was on long travel. Just came back to my home town now..

Just install non comercial version and choose all option as default. Opt for Full access.

Najaf

Hi Najaf,

Hope you had a good trip and it was for something nice.

Teamveiwer 7 installed and waiting to go.

Just in case it makes any difference, at present the AP is connected to my network as follows:

ADSL wired/wirelessRouter ---hard wired to---> 16 port switch ---hard wired to---> 4 port hub ---hard wired to---> Access Point

ADSL wired/wirelessRouter ---hard wired to---> 16 port switch ---hard wired to---> Spare PC

Spare PC ---hard wired thru console cable to ---> Access Point

The AP is the only device connected to the 4 port hub ( the hub's only being used to couple two CAT5 cable together as I have no inline couplers).

Thanks.

Hi,

Believe me, i have no clue of what exactly you wanted to setup :-( and whether i will be able to make it happen as per your requirment. All i can say is I can give a try....

What is the teamviewer username and password?

Regards

Najaf

Should I be giving the username and password here on the forum or would it be better sent via private message or email?

I understand your are trying and will give it your best shot and if it works - great - if not it's back to scratching my head for an alternative solution.

I belive what I am trying to do is setup the AP to act as a wireless client (adapter)

Regards,

Glenn.

Updated network diagram.

Hi Glenn,

Since your requirment is to connect AP1232AG to non Cisco workgroup bridge, the AP will have to support the command station-role workgroup-bridge universal H.H.H. I have tried this command on two different IOS version (123-8.JEA3 & 123-8.JEE) of 1232 but apparently the universal command is not supported on this.

Please find the cisco's version which says AP1200 does not support Universal Work Group bridge.

Regards

Najaf
