Hi

Is it possible to "mesh" WAP561 access ponits together to get a large wifi network without cabling ?

I'd like to connect one AP to my network and the install other access points linked together to extend this network without cabling.

If this is possible, could someone help me ? I tried to follow these instructions : https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/smb/wireless/cisco-small-business-500-series-wireless-access-points/smb4410-work-group-bridge-configuration-on-wap551-and-wap561-access.html but was unable to get something working;..

Thx in advance

Regards

Hi

Thanks for your interest

Here's my config :

I first instaleld 2 AP as standalone AP witch SSID cisco 1, ciscoé and cisco3, cisco4

I then activated Workgroup Brdige on AP1 with INFRA as SSID for Infrastructure and AP as SSIDs for AP

On AP2 I set AP as Infrastructure SSID. I then get "Connection Status: Associated to AP" ==> looks

good

I then disconected the wired cable of AP2 ==> I can't ping it anymore...

I'm a little bit lot. The documentation is not really explicit. Peharps should I try WDS bridge wich is said to be better by the documentation BUT :

- When I browse the networks on AP1 I see the AP2 5 GHz network while teh 2.4 GHz is selected ??

- I am asked a WDS Id wich is not described in the doc (I entered a random string)

I did the same (symetric) on both APs

Once again I can see "connected" in status/Network interfaces for WDS1 but when I disconec the wire I can't ping the disconnected AP anymore form my LAN...

When I reconnect the wire I can ping AP2 but in network interfaces WDS1 is registered as DOWN...

What am I missing ?

I apologized for these (probably) stupid questions

Thx

Any hint ?

Thanks

Hi,

If you are planning to setup a Wireless Mesh network, then you may refer the following link to get more details…

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/business-100-series-mesh-extenders/smb-01-bus-wap-mesh-aag-cte-en.html

With WAP561, Work-Group-Bridge may not give you the satisfactory result even if the setup works for you.

Thanks.... But I already have the WAP561  APs

Hi,

You may cross-verify the WDS settings once on the WAP561 following the administration guide link provided below (page 89 onwards) …

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/csbap/wap5x1/administration/guide/1CSWAP551_561-SWUM1xx-MAY-7-2014.pdf
