WAP371 - Single Point Setup Error - config. change is propagated to all APs of the cluster doesnt work well (FW 1.1.2.3)

Dear All,

The problems I describe affect all our WAP371 networks. We have a total of 4 whose networks (all with Single Point Setup). In every network there are between 2 and 6 access points. (All APs running with latest Firmware 1.1.2.3). We fulfil all the requirements for the single Point Setup mode according admin guide.

We noticed that not all configuration changes to the Single Point Setup Operating be transferring to the other access points. According to the administration guide should work (as well as self-healing). But we had several crashes and even red error messages.

There are not automatically propagating changes to the access point to all other access point in the cluster. (Regardless we take for changes the cluster controller for it or not).

For example
these changes are transferred immediately to all other APs
- Wireless – Radio -> “Legacy Rate Sets”
- Wireless – Networks
- Administration – Time Settings

these changes are not transferred to the other APs
Here we need to modify the changes to all APs individually.
- Wireless – Radio -> “DTIM Period”
- Wireless – “Beacon Interval”
- Wireless – “Frame-burst-Support”
- Administration – Discovery Bonjour

This behavior is not normal - or is it?

In cases where it regards the Single Point Setup area, there is even crash if the configuration was not broadcast to all. In this case we get then at the access points with clusters Priority -1 red error messages (see attached image)

Example 1 / Networks - Radio
Once we were only able to solve the problem in which we have provided all APs on Factory Reset Mode
Incorrect configuration was in the setting:
- Wireless – Networks – Radio 1:
we had cleared an SSID for the master controller. However, this was not transferred to the other two APs. We have tried everything - but nothing helped more - only factory reset.

Example 2 / Captive Portal Setup
other times we had to watch that we have prepared for all APs, the same conditions - only the APs went with -1 clusters Priority again to 0.
Here - the trigger was the Captive Portal Setup.
A customer wanted a customized captive portal. Only replace Logo - nothing Major (This led to the Error Message picture attached).

What we had done? We were in the cluster controller AP. Captive portal already worked – but without customer brand customization. Now we wanted to replace the logo (Captive Portal – Web Portal Customization – Logo Image Name – from cisco_logo_png to customers' corporate logo. For that we had upload the logo in the Access Point. This went on - but then it was already happening. The logo and the configuration could not be transferred to other APs in the Single Point Setup. Because it does not transfer the logo on the other APs, there is a misconfiguration which in turn led to crash the other APs (red message / Cluster Priority -1, ....).
in order to solve the problem, we had to do the following:
1 - put it all back
2- upload Logo on all APs at the same time (a browser window per Aps)
3 - activate the logo in the cluster controller
the only way it worked and led to that again all APs on Cluster Priority 0 were.

Has anyone already done this kind of experience? Does anyone know what to look for?

Administrator Guide (based on the firmware 1.1.2.3).I was searching for a current Administration Guide (base). But unfortunately not found. Anyone know if this is already available. there have been some changes in particular the Single Point setup where we are not sure.
EXAMPLE:
- Cluster Priority (-0)
- Cluster Management Address

Thanks in Advance
Janis

My name Eric Moyers. I am an Engineer in the Small Business Support Center.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue.

If you check the Admin Guide, under the chapter for Single Point Setup, it does state which settings are propagated.

As for some of the errors that you are mentioning, it would probably be best to call in and opena case with one of our engineers. That way they can work directly with you and get your configuration files and do some lab testing as well.
