Will only connect on the 802.11n 5 GHz

Hi,

I have the WAP321 to boost my wifi at home but I only have managed to setup a stable wifi connection on 802.11n with 5GHz.

Since not all my devices support the 802.11n on 5GHz only a limited set of devices can connect. For example my iphone 4/4s will not connect.

I suspect I am having interference of neighbouring wifi AP's but there must me a way to measure the field strength and determine a setup which will give me a good wifi signal on the 20GHz band.

Anyone any suggestion to resolve this problem.

Hi Andre, you can install a program called INSSIDER made by Metageek. This can tell you about interference and strenght, etc. It is a free program.

The Iphone 4s does not have a 5 GHZ capability.

Thanks for the tip.

Indeed the Iphone4/4s only support 802.11n on 2.4GHz.

The inSSIDer tool already helped by aligning the channel with neighbouring AP's.

At the moment I run on 20/40GHz in a mixed setup (802.11 b/g/n). The setup allows all the device to connect but I need to test a bit longer to determine if the wifi signal is stable.

Lessons learned:

1. with multiple AP's in the house use fixed channels

2. using the 5GHz band gives trouble with devices which do not support 802.11 b/g/n on 5GHZ

3. the WAP321 is a good AP with a lot of functionality you need to determine if you need this. Could well be that a model with less functionality will do for your purpose.
