2504 and 3802i new install not happening

Hi,

I installed a new 2504 WLC and new 3802i APs, however the APs are not fully functional. They keep cycling the LED RED/GREEN/BLUE which I don't even see in the troubleshooting guide. WLC running 8.3.102.0, APs connect, take a license, but none of the radios come up and it doesn't even see 2.4Ghz. I have installed 5508s before, and WiSMs and didn't have this issue with 1252/1142/2602 APs. Not sure what the heck I am missing and hoping the group can help me out. TAC told me they are not getting enough power which is a scripted answer. Controller shows PoE as PoE/Full Power. Was I supposed to install a device pack on the controllers? I went from 8.1.115.0 (Factory) right to 8.3.102.0 because 115 doesn't support 3802s.

3800 require PoE+ (802.3at) to operate. Since you got a PoE line card it won't work properly. See below for power requirement for 3800 series.

Not sure what you want for a console output, so I posted AP run-config and show log:

If you have full console output when AP trying to register, we can see the exact issue going on. Even with the limited log messages you can see it is PoE negotiation failed.

If you have any PoE+ switch you can confirm a 3802 works without any problem. In that way you can confirm the issue with PoE

Which switch is powering these APs ?

Post a console output from AP to see what's the exact problem

I read that too, but didn't see the note. Thank you for the second look!

Note: If the AP2800 and AP 3800 are powered from an 802.3af power source the LED will cycle though the colors and the radios will be disabled.

Thanks CDW for selling this to me!!

Hello Peter,

If you could please help me on something.

I have a 2504 controller and i upgraded similarly from 8.0.115.0 to 8.3.102.0 but it never loads to the newer firmware. During the boot, it shows that it has successfully loaded 8.3 but it eventually loads 8.0.115.0 instead. I have opened a separate thread for this but noone actually helped me out on that. Could you please have a look at this thread and give us some insight?

Rasika,

Do you know if the 3802 not only needs PoE+, but also CDP?  I have a few access points that will do exactly what this thread is about - they'll boot up with radios down due to low power.  However they are on a non-Cisco PoE+ switch.  I'm wondering if Cisco requires CDP or LLDP.  The switch I am using likely does not support CDP as it is not Cisco.
