2504 WLC

What am I missing here?

I have connected my 2504 to a 3560 switch via a UTP SFP on a Gig port.

I have my management on 10.0.0.x  I have tried tagging the port and untagging.

When I connect to the 3560 the interface comes up a-1000 a-full but when I look on the WLC the port I am using, port 1, shows Link status down.

The green light is on both the WLC port and the 3560 port but I cannot get the link status to come up on the WLC nor can I ping the WLC.

It must be something dumb I have missed.

The WLC port is autonegotiate too.

Thanks for any input.

Can you share the switchport config as well as a show interface detailed management from the WLC?

WLC Config

Interface Name................................... management

IP Address....................................... 10.0.0.10

IP Netmask....................................... 255.0.0.0

IP Gateway....................................... 10.0.0.1

External NAT IP State............................ Disabled

VLAN............................................. untagged

Active Physical Port............................. 1

Primary Physical Port............................ 1

ACL.............................................. Unconfigured

AP Manager....................................... Yes

Guest Interface.................................. No

Switchport is simply

interface g0/1

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk encaps dot

switchport trunk native vlan 10

interface vlan 10

ip address 10.0.0.1 255.0.0.0

I've also tried

Interface Name................................... management

IP Address....................................... 10.0.0.10

IP Netmask....................................... 255.0.0.0

IP Gateway....................................... 10.0.0.1

External NAT IP State............................ Disabled

VLAN............................................. 10

Active Physical Port............................. 1

Primary Physical Port............................ 1

ACL.............................................. Unconfigured

AP Manager....................................... Yes

Guest Interface.................................. No

With switchport

interface g0/1

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk encaps dot

The switchport always shows status

connected trunk a-full a-1000

The port state on the WLC looks like as follows and the link light is on for the port at the front of the WLC.

STP   Admin   Physical   Physical   Link   Link

Pr  Type   Stat   Mode     Mode      Status   Status  Trap     POE

-- ------- ---- ------- ---------- ---------- ------ ------- -------

1  Normal  Disa Enable  Auto       Auto       Down   Enable  N/A

2  Normal  Disa Enable  Auto       Auto       Down   Enable  N/A

3  Normal  Disa Enable  Auto       Auto       Down   Enable  Enable  (Power Off)

4  Normal  Disa Enable  Auto       Auto       Down   Enable  Enable  (Power Off)

Thanks again for any input.

Hi,

i know this might be dumb to say...can you change the cable?

and make the speed on the switch auto, duplex auto..

try another port.

What happens if you connect the WLC to one if the Ethernet ports on the 3560, does it come up?

Yes.  The switch port does come up as does the VLAN interface.

Tried another port, cable and every combination of port settings.  Hard set at both ends and auto at both ends.

I find it strange that the Link status shows Down but the LED on the port is on and the switchport is connected.

Thanks.

I think this 2504 must be faulty.

I had another look at it today and port 1 showed link status up but I still couldn't ping.  So I disconnected the cable and moved it to port 2 to see if that came up but when I looked at the port summary it still showed port 1 up even though it had no cable in it and port 2 was down with a cable in it and a link light on.

I stuck an AP on the 1st PoE port and it boots but the WLC port still shows down with PoE enabled and (power off) against the port where the AP has actually booted now.  It's an autonomous AP

I think this WLC is stuffed.

Thanks for all your input.

When you use port 2, did you map the management of wlc to port 2.

admin status of WLC ports showing down.

are vlan10 up on the switch side.

try connecting wlc port to PC.

reboot WLC and check if you're getting ethernet initialization errors through console.
