Dear All,

I am having 3850 Switch act as a wireless controller since last 3 Years along with 3600 AP.

Now for expansion of our network along with MPLS location we purchase 5508 controller in HA along with 3802E Access Point.

In Controller we are configured HA successfully. Now when we register 3802 AP on 5508 Controller, AP is not register.

In AP we give the manual commands for AP IP, Gateway, & 5508 Controller IP Address.

But still 3803 AP is not get register on 5508 Controller.

Please advice where is the problem.

Regards,

JItesh Mahajan.

Hi,

Could you please paste the output of these commands:

from AP: sh version

From 5508 WLC: sh sysinfo

***Info: you need atleast 8.2.110.0 version on 5508 WLC to support 3802 AP.

Dear Sandip,

Thank you for reply.

I was already updated the controller IOS from 8.0 to 8.2.121.

for the same updated the IOS of Access Point as well.

This IOS update activity is done on just 2 days back, But still the problem is remain.

AP is not register on 5508 controller.

JItesh mahajan.

provide me the complete info.....

Dear Sandip,

Currently we are having 3850 switch act as a controller with 3602 AP since last 3 Years.

The expansion is going on in our current office along with some MPLS location.

so we brought 5508 Controller with HA along with 3802 AP.

First we configured the HA in controller. Then from Cisco KB we are knowing that we need to upgrade the IOS of Controller.

So we break the HA and update the IOS of both the controller 5508, then again configured HA.

Then we also update the Access Point 3802 IOS.

but the Access Point is not get register on 5508 controller.

So we create one standalone environment with L3 switch, L2 Switch, 5508 controller, and one 3802 AP, in this environment 3802 AP is register on 5508 Controller.

So we again connect controller in Live environment where L3 3850 switch act as a controller, again we face the same problem 3802 Access Point is not get register on 5508 Controller.

Hi,

Ok...what i understand.....is

1. You want use 5508 WLC instead of 3850 which is your layer 3 swicth as well!!!

2. I will suggest to remove wireless config from 3850 first

how to remove wireless config from 3850:

You should be able to remove those two lines as below & then reboot the switch. It should not act as a  WLC afterwords..

3850(config)#no wireless mobility controller
3850(config)#no wireless management interface x

3. After reboot your AP must join to new WLC if you have set all parameter correctly....

Dear Sandip,

Is their any other option with out uninstalling the 3850 Controller.

I want to use both the controller at a time.

I also have query of 3802 Access Point, can this 3802 Access Point is act as controller for small office like 3650 & 3850 Switches.

Regards,

Jitesh Mahajan.

No I am not talking about uninstalling..just told to remove wireless functionality from 3850(only if you are not using for wireless purpose...)

Problem is 3850 is acting as MC...

so you need to change it ....as

1. 5508 as MC with new mobility(to use new mobility..you need to have 7.6. or higher version 5508.

2. change the 3850 to act as MA

2. Configure new mobility on 5508 wlc.
