Hi All,
I'm currently testing 802.11r mixed mode support on our WLC running 8.0.115.0 and I'm receiving reports that some devices cannot connect. As soon as i disable FT those devices can connect again without any issues.
Am I correct that WLC version 8.0 should support both 802.11r and non 802.11r endpoints on the same SSID now? If so, is there anything specific I need to be aware of?
thank you

Yes the WLC should be able to support non .11r clients on a WLAN configured for it.
That being said...it depends on the driver of the WNIC. Is it going to ignore the .11r IE, or is it going to barf because there is an extra IE that it doesn't know how to handle?

Ok I think that I understand.
So to allow non-802.11r devices to associate to a 802.11r enabled SSID, the legacy clients drivers still needs to understand and parse the 802.11r IE even though the client doesn't fully support 802.11r? is that correct?

As Steve said, it is all depend on end device capability, here is few devices mixed mode support capability

802.11r mixed mode support removes the restriction of creating a separate SSID for 802.11r support. Non-802.11r clients with updated drivers can join 802.11r-enabled SSID which Simplifies operations with single SSID for 802.11r clients.
