8540 cisco wlc added wrong primary WLC for WAPs

WLC added some characters in WAPs primary switch and WAPs fall back to standby-8.10.151.0 please suggest

All WAPs(2700) configured with Primary WLC(8540-8.10.151.0)

out of total 500 WAPs configured with secondary wlc(5508-8.2.166.0) and were working since 2 months.

Issue:-

That 500 WAPs configured with secondary WLC added some characters in back of name of primary WLC(see attachment)

and looks this makes primary wlc name  incorrect and that 500 WAPS fullback to standby...

Does anyone saw this behaviour with hardware software(8540-8.10.151.0, 5508-8.2.166.0, 2700 WAPs)

Reconfigure the primary via the cli.  It's the easiest way, you can just create a template using excel or automate it using an automation tool.  I have never seen or heard of that happening?  Was something pushed to the controller or some audit?  I would just push the new primary configuration and be done with it.

Cisco reported CSCvx52228 which is little bit different than this issue but corrupt the WLC name in AP configuration...checking with Cisco for outcome.

Looks like that might be your issue. The concerning thing is that you defined high availability with controllers on different code versions. This can really become an issue when aps bounce between the two. This is not best practice for failover. Anyways, it seems like the bug has a workaround but it’s also a workaround for controllers running the same code. If your aps move from one controller to another, the ap will reboot to switch to the code on the newly joined controller.
Again, if you want them to be moved back, then make the change from the cli as it’s much faster to do.

FYI-

• Abnormal logs of "Primary WLC name" which was output by show run-config command

• After upgrading to 8.10, Primary Controller name appended with junk characters (Duplicate of the above bug)
