I have a non ciso DSL modem with wifi enabled and I have a CIsco AIR AP 1231G device as well. Is it possible to configure the cisco AP and the repeater by using the non cisco DSL wifi device as parent ? I tried many ways but in the log of cisco device I can see " Interface Dot11Radio0, cannot associate: Not specified parent ( from .......mac of parent...)
Any ideas ?

Repeaters should be avoided at all costs. While they may extend the range they usually cause more problems than it is worth.
Can you run a cable to the Cisco access point?
Failing that, what about power line adaptors?

Will not work: Repeater access points running Cisco IOS software cannot associate to parent access points that that do not run Cisco IOS software.

Since this seems like a small home style setup, your better off using one of those wifi extenders that plus into the wall socket.
