Hi. I just recently had shipped 4x of the above ap's I can't get them to add to our WLC AIR-CT5508-K9 v7.4.100 because of version incompatibility according to http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html and as we have a heap of 1240s I can only update so far. The error I'm getting on the WLC is; #DTLS-3-HANDSHAKE_FAILURE: openssl_dtls.c:681 Failed to complete DTLS handshake with peer 192.168.x.x
So the questions are;
1) Can I make these autonomous? I've tried and tried but can't seem to get it to work or can they only be used as Mobility Express AP's?
2) Should these work with the WLC v 7.4.100.0, am I missing something? or what software version would work with both AIR-LAP1242AG-E9K9 and the above

Yes you can convert it to Autonomus AP:
Activating it (turning the AP from lightweight to autonomous) is a single command.
ap#capwap ap autonomous
***Once done, the lightweight IOS is DELETED from flash...

1852 will not work with WLC version 7.4.100.0 because of this software compatibility as you mentioned in your posts.
And 1242 last SW support on WLC is 8.0.X means both AP(1242 and 1852) cant work together.

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply.. Unfortunately I don't have the "capwap ap autonomous" command available. Just the ones below..
#capwap ap
erase Erase CAPWAP config
ip CAPWAP ap ip command
lag CAPWAP lag config
primary-base Configuring AP's primary controller
restart Restart CAPWAP Protocol
secondary-base Configuring AP's secondary controller
teritary-base Configuring AP's teritary controller

Ohk then you need to use this method:

well according to the youtube clip. I need a k9w7 image to make this autonomous. From the cisco site, I can only download Lightweight and mobility express for this model. So that would suggest it can't be made autonomous?
