Air-Cap3502: What is max users and range?

Hello Everyone,

I have 2 questions about the Cisco Air-CAP3502I-A-K9.

  • What is the recommended and maximum number of conncurrent users this device supports?
  • What is the recommended and maximum range of this device?

I've looked else where but can't seem to get any hard numbers.

Thank you for your help.

you won't get a "hard" number. If you search all over the forums, you'll find a consensus and the Cisco rule-of-thumb of 25 clients per AP.

But another question is what kind of traffic? If you are doing emails, HTTP, chats, then you can potentially see the numbers go up to 35 to 38 clients per AP.

If you do HD videos, this number drops to about 8 clients per AP.

Does anyone else have have an opinion on that?

Also does anyone know what the range is?

Unfortunately, you're thread is in the "LAN Switching and Router" section of CSC.  So unless you move this thread (upper right-hand corner), to the wireless section not alot of people can see it.

Also does anyone know what the range is?

You need to provide more information.

If you are, for example, in a large open wide field.  There are no obstacles around you, your AP has internal antennas, you have all data rates for 802.11a/b/g/n enabled, you have no bluetooth, or there are no nearby wireless devices other than your AP, then you could potentially look at a distance of about 30 to 35 metres in a single direction.

Leo is correct in his statement.  Best practice if you search the forum is 25 users per AP and you will find a lot of post regarding that.  How far the signal can travel.... well, lets say that its best to test it yourself in your environment to make sure you can achieve the signal and snr that you require.

Thanks,

Scott

Best practice is 25 users per AP, however it can support more but it will decrease the performance as well. And as par range is concern, 30 to 35 m max it will support.
