Hello Everyone,
I have problem with AIR-CAP3702I-A-K9.
My Switch is: C9200L-48T-4G, SW image: CAT9K_LITE_IOSXE, SW Version: 16.12.4. No Stack and PoE.
WLC model: 5508, Software Version: 8.5.182.0
Because this Sw doesn't have PoE, most of the PoE Injectors are from Cisco and only 1 PoE Injector is from Ruckus. On this Sw, AP not run full power about PoE Injector of Cisco and Ruckus.
So, what should I do to make the AP run at full capacity?
Thank you Everyone!

- Does the power injector have sufficient capacity to power the AP fully ?

- Scrutinize the boot process of the AP on a console and review which exact errors are being reported concerning available power , if that is not possible due to remoteness , then reboot the AP and just after boot connect to it and issue the command show logging ,

- From the show logging output :
>...%CDP_PD-4-POWER_OK: 15.4 W power - INJECTOR_CONFIGURED_OVERRIDE_SAFETY inline power source
How do you conclude that the AP has a powering problem ?

Lets deal with the Cisco and Ruckus power injectors separately.
First Cisco:
- what model of Cisco power injector are you using?
- how is the AP configured for power? https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/8-5/config-guide/b_cg85/ap_power_and_lan_connections.html
- Check that the AP has CDP enabled
Now Ruckus:
- Same as above applies for AP power config
- The AP needs to negotiate power using CDP or LLDP but the Ruckus power injector does not support CDP so CDP needs to be disabled on the ethernet port of the AP connected to Ruckus equipment as per the config guide:
Note |
We recommend that you disable Cisco Discovery Protocol on the controller and access point when connected to non-Cisco switches as CDP is unsupported on non-Cisco switches and network elements. |
