Hi,
i have a air-lap01131-ag-e-k9 that was originally in lightweight mode and configured with a controller, but i am in the process of wanting to convert to autonomous mode, i am having issues with connectivity to the AP from my laptop.
i have followed numerous guides on this forum, i have successfully
downloaded correct firmware
renamed the firmware to .default
placed this in root of tftp server folder
connected laptop via console to view output
connected laptop via Ethernet to Ethernet port of AP
changed static ip on laptop to 10.0.0.2 set subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, default gateway to 10.0.0.1
held reset button on AP when applying power and waiting for radio light to flash red
AP gets a IP address then of 10.0.0.1
But even though both laptop and AP are in the same subnet, i am unable to ping the AP from my laptop and it doesn't start the tftp process
I have disabled firewall etc, and tried with both crossover and straight through cable, it seems there is something missing at this last stage, i even tried on a second laptop but that would not ping either, am i missing something.
i acquired the AP for training purposes to help with studies and so far i have learnt a lot of troubleshooting but i would really love to get past this, any help would be really appreciated.
Kind regards
Sam

hey sorry for late response not been well last few days
anyhow
i tried both methods above, i set the ip address of pc to 10.0.0.5 i confirmed connectivity by pinging succesfully from AP to pc which is good
i then downloaded the image from Cisco, i even tested a previous release, i first tried the archive download-sw version without extracting rar file and all that happens is that it times out whilst examining image, this is slightly different now to my previous attemps which couldnt locate the file. I tried this a few times without success, it always times out.
I then renamed the rar file to c1130-k9w7-tar.default and tested this way bu that also didnt work.
i feel like we are making progress, i forgot to make a screen shot but it basically just says times out whilst examining, i can take a screen shot maybe tonight.
any ideas :-)
thanks
sam

Did you change the timeout for the TFTP server to 30 seconds?

If your tftp is failing now, then it's usually the firewall on the PC that is blocking it. Since you can ping the AP you should be fine, it's your tftp that isn't being allowed.

yes i changed the timout value to 30 seconds, it seems to take around 30 seconds before it reports timed out.
I dont believe its a firewall issue, i also thought this could be the issue as i was using a corporate laptop at first but i then used a laptop that had the firewall turned off completely and no antivirus.
Plus the corporate laptop has been used to tftp images onto cisco devices multiple times before
i think i am missing something :-(

Please post the output from the console so we can see what you are doing. That would help us out a lot.
Thanks,
Scott
