According to the Quick Start Guide the Aironet 1200 Series Access Point I just purchased should have an antenna that I can fold out if the device is used in a horizontal position. Is this antenna standard? Or is it only by special order? The back of the Access point has two poles that 2.4 GHz antennas can be attached to if I purchase them, but between them their is a plate with two tiny torx screws/bolts holding it in place. Is that where the 5-GHz anntenna is supposed to be?

You forgot to read the fine print
"Antennas sold separately"
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps469/index.html
Sorry to be the bearer of bad new. There are a variety of antennas available for such a wide array of purposes that Cisco does not include them with the AP1200s. HCeck the link above and see which one works for you.
Hope this helps.

The antennas are sold separately. The standard "duckie" antennas are ~US$17.00 each.
The 5Ghz "A" radio is a PCMCIA/CARDBUS unit that fits into the slot in the end (the cover plate you describe). It has its own antenna (a paddle that rotates ~180 degrees).
The connectors are RP-TNC. You may be able to buy antennas (Cisco or third-party) online or at a local brick & mortar computer store.
Good Luck

antenna's not included..
we've also had good luck with antenna's from
they also have amplifiers and other gear, pretty much anything you could need and we've been real impressed with their ability to handle harsh outside conditions.

The salesperson said that this Access point was supposed to be configured with a built-in antenna. BUT, if that cover plate is still on the end, could there be some kind of antenna "built-in" or installed? The salesperson mentioned something about the antenna could work one way for a desktop or another for a vertical mount. Sounds like the 5G antenna and from the pictures, that antenna should be visible from the outside, not hidden inside with the cover plate still on the end of the device. I don't want to waste a lot of time trying to get this device to work if there really isn't an antenna, but I will be embarassed if I insist that there is no antenna and it turns out there really is one in the access point. What do you think? If it matters, the hardware was shipped directly from Cisco to me.

Antennas are *ABSOLUTELY* not included.
If you don't have:
1.) antennas connected to the RP-TNCs at the top
and /or
2.) a paddle antenna connected to a pivot at the bottom (which is part of the cardbus "a" radio) ....
you do not have any antennas.
The salesman appears to be mistaken (what we'd politely call "having ID-10-T issues" (ID10T)). I know it's rare but, this time, the salesman is wrong. ;-} .
You need to buy antennas for the b/g band, which go on the RP-TNCs on the top end,or an "a" radio which has an attached antenna, but it only works for the "a" band for the bottom end.
"Trust Me" (and the other on this post that have provided links that explicitly say the antennas are not included).
There are no hidden antennas, not on the AP12XX.
GO back to the salesman and kick some verbal booty, he's wrong.
Good Luck!

Thank You !!! Now I'm not going to WASTE my time messing around trying to get this Access Point to work WITHOUT antennas. I really appreciate your help. Thanks again.
