I have Cisco AP-1231G.
My problem is that this AP doesnt want boot "automatically". This is console:

The system is not configured to boot automatically. The
following command will finish loading the operating system

Check your Conf reg is set to 0xF

I have the same problem with a 1242AG, which is managed by a 4400 controller. It boots fine after I type "boot" into the console. Not sure how to set "Conf reg" to the indicated value, either through the console or the 4400.
What I can't seem to find is the equivalent to what you suggest above, nor a "Config ap boot" type of command. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
