Ask for Cisco Aironet 1560 Series Outdoor Access Points

Hi everyone,

I am work at VNPT in Vietnam.

Currently, we are using Cisco Access point 1560 Series for Free Wifi Project.

We have a problem: the use of SFP port will double the speed of internet access via AP with the same network configuration. Please help explain this reason. Thanks.

Hi

Really interesting finding. Would you mind to show the evidencies?

I don't know why.

Using of SFP Port for data and LAN Port for power:

And using LAN Port for data and power:

Optics can go the "distance".  The AP can be connected >100 metres away from the nearest switch at 1 Gbps.

LAN port is limited to <100 metres.

I know this. But we use LAN cable <100m in case 1.

Not sure if that douple the speed of internet, its depends on delivery of Interent provider speed.

AP has Ethernet port that connect to GIG Ethernet port in the switch.

most used case we use SFP for Optic connection, if you like to have distance or Fibre as input., but that does not make any difference of Internet speeds for sure.

or am i understand your requirmeent  different ?

Thank you so much! I am comparing the use of SFP Port for data and LAN Port for power vs using LAN Port for data and power. Speed test each time gives different results:

Because the speed of the SFP is, 1 Gbps, still faster compared to using radio for the backhaul.

Thank you! But we don't use radio for the backhaul. I am comparing the use of SFP Port for data and LAN Port for power vs using LAN Port for data and power. Speed test each time gives different results

What speed is the copper port - 100Mbps or 1Gbps?  Full duplex or half duplex? How is the switch port configured? (show run int)

"show int" on the switch port and AP port info on the WLC?

Also add what's the 1560 model, if you are running 1562I with POE+ then AP will run with certain limitations. I would suggest the below test scenarios as well.

1. Connect the AP to UPOE capable switch or UPOE power adapter and check

2. Fluke test the cable to make sure that cable is perfect.

3. If you don't have UPOE then disable POE in the switch, connect the UTP uplink and power the AP manually.

4. Also record what MCS rates client was negotiating during the testing.
