BR1310. Why SSID broadcast?

Could somebody explain me why it´s neccesary to broadcast infrastructure vlan SSID on the BR1310 bridges? More and more centrino and wifi loaded XP laptops are used by people. Broadcasted SSIDs pop up for the users. This could get the courious wannabe hacker to try to explore this a little more. I know that switching off ssid isnt secure, but why announce it to the public that "Here i am!". Ok you could get the ssid with netstumbler etc, but this is not a tool that the average pc user know about or bother to use.

We have secured the bridges with neccesary security but i also whis our links were "silent".

You do not need to broadcast the infrastructure SSID. There is a bug on BR1310 which causes the 1310 to broadcast the SSID; even though it is configured not to. The bug ID is CSCee34600. For bug details, you can go to the following URL:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/home.pl

Upgrade to 12.3(2)JA will fix the problem.

Have upgraded all four Br1310 through the webinterface using http upgrade, so its probably fixed now. Upgraded also 25 AP1230 the same way, so now this metod finaly works. Good:)

When upgrading a BR1310 as a repeater on a remote hill i held my breath for some minutes, but all went well.
