A quick question here, mostly to figure out quickly if I gotta file an RMA or not with Amazon. I bought a UV-5R+ which arrived a few days ago and it seems to be working just fine... except in broadcast FM.
I can access the function just fine by shortpressing CALL, but the reception is completely dead, without even static. Seek function doesn't give me any working station and it's equally dead both indoors and outdoors. As an added bonus, a faint "ticking" can be heard at ~0.5s intervals if I crank the volume up to max. A full factory reset through the radio menu didn't help.
After some googling I found out that in some cases the radio can have a "disabled broadcast FM function" by factory default which can only be enabled through CHIRP. I don't have a cable, but if someone with a UV-5R could confirm that the same behavior happens if the function is disabled (fm menu working fine but no sound or static coming out of it) I'll at least rest a bit easier knowing that I can just buy the cable whenever and fix it instead of having to deal with an overseas product return with all the headache that entails applinked. If not, well...
