C9800 ports and IP addressing

Hi,

I have two physical C9800. I want to check my understanding about ports IP addressing:

  • two service ports share the same subnet
  • two wireless mgmt and RMI share the same subnet
  • two RP share the same subnet

Would this be correct?

In addition, should the subnet of RPs be the same as the one used for wireless mgmt and RMI interfaces?

RP expected to be Layer 2 (via switch) or back to back check the below deployment guide :

https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/9800/17-1/deployment-guide/c9800-ha-sso-deployment-guide-rel-17-1.pdf

Service port  - Most cases used  out of band management.

WMI (or Wireless Management  port - The WMI terminates all the CAPWAP traffic from APs and is the default source interface for all the control plane traffic generated from the box

below guide give you more direction :

Hello @iores,

Regarding the subnet for RPs, it's generally a good practice to have them on the same subnet as the wireless management and RMI interfaces. This ensures that the redundancy and failover mechanisms function smoothly within the same subnet.

Best regards

 - What do you mean by 'two' ; are you talking about a redundant setup , if so which type ?

As Marce points out you are probably referring to HA-SSO setup with 2 WLCs:

Have a good read through all the documentation and Cisco Live presentation:
