Yes.  The 1231 should be fine, but the 1230B needs to have had the MP31G radio upgrade done.

You also would need to be running a WLC code version 7.0 or older.  7.2 does not support them.

Stephen,

What's involved in an MP31G radio upgrade?  How much effort is there in doing it?  Also what is the approximate cost for this?

Adil

It's not a lot of work, you order the MP31G chipset, and you get the tool to open the radio.  Pull out old, place in new.  In total it takes about 15 minutes to do.

If you can find the MP31G they should be around $80.00 US I think.

It's not a lot of work,

Yes it is.  Particularly when the WAP is hanging somewhere and you need some equipment to pull it down and put it back up.

Otherwise, I agree with Steve.  As long as your controller firmware is 7.0.X then you'll be fine.  Firmware 7.1.X and upwards will no longer support the 1230.

If you want an option or discount to upgrade your 1230 to the new G2 models (1600/2600/3600) then talk to your Cisco SE/AM (not your authorized Cisco reseller) and mention the phrase Technology Migration Program (TMP).  This program exists.
