Catalyst 9100 Access Points TDWR support under ETSI domain

This post is only to remind you all that Cisco has unsupported TDWR channels (120, 124 and 128) from ETSI domain for newest Catalyst 9100 series access points (https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/access-points/sales-tool-c96-744090.pdf).

With this movement Cisco continuous limiting the number of available channels in ETSI domain, as it's not supporting RLAN band 3 channels either (UNII-3).

The fact is that those channels can be used as per ETSI domain regulation, as far as you follow some best practices for TDWR and take care about the limitations in RLAN band 3.

This is a reality that Cisco is not supporting RLAN band 3 because this is not free to use in some countries using ETSI domain (as it was in the UK until the last year). But why taking that step for TWDR? Is this something that we will suffer when WiFi 6E would be a reality with every country having different allowed channels even within ETSI domain?

Why Cisco cannot use country codes to limit the channels that every administrator can configure in the WLAN infrastructure like other vendors? Or why is not allowing the use of all of them and giving the chance to admins to use them or not? Penalties are not going against Cisco but against the administrators.

Now, for very high density deployments, we only have seven 40-MHz channels. And even though I'm not a fan of them, there is only one 160-MHz channel in ETSI domain, or three 80-MHz channels.

Have you tried raising a TAC case about this (it could even be a mistake)?

Yes I raised a case to TAC and they told me about newest Catalyst APs unsupporting TDWR channels.

Thanks for the heads up. Quite sad about this, another 3 channels lost on the new models in Europe. I hope we soon get updated models with 6E support.

Today Cisco BU has confirmed that they are in process of testing and approval of those channel assignments with the radio firmware vendor (Qualcomm).

Unfortunately they don’t have any information about the exact ETA when the approval process will finish and on which code this will be implemented on the 9100 series APs.

Very helpful, thanks. That leaves some hope that those channels might be added back in the future.
