Changeing duplex on wire side

Is there a safe way to change the duplex (from half to full) on the wired port of a 1200 AP running IOS 12.3? When I go into it wirelessly with a browser I see a message that says I shouldn't change the duplex setting.

Can I do it via telnet or WLSE?

I think the reason why it says not ot set it is probably because you will lose the connection to the AP when you do that. This can happen anywhere whether you telnet or use WLSE. But in a few minutes (if duplex matches on either sides) the connection should be restored.
