NOTEPardon, I do not speak French.

1. Go to the Cisco website and note the link to the AireOS firmware and the complete filename of the firmware.  Please include the AP Bundle file.

2. Read this:  Cisco Wireless LAN Controller AireOS Software FIPS Mode Denial of Service Vulnerability

3. Scroll down to the "Customers Without Service Contracts" section:

Customers who purchase directly from Cisco but do not hold a Cisco service contract and customers who make purchases through third-party vendors but are unsuccessful in obtaining fixed software through their point of sale should obtain upgrades by contacting the Cisco TAC: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/web/tsd-cisco-worldwide-contacts.html

Customers should have the product serial number available and be prepared to provide the URL of this advisory as evidence of entitlement to a free upgrade.

4. Contact Cisco TAC (by email) and provide the following information:

  • Serial Number of the WLC
  • Link to the file(s) (Step 1)
  • Filename(s) (Step 1)
  • Security Bulletin (Step 2)

Hope this helps.

Just to add to above - the version you should be asking for is 8.5.182.12 - not 8.5.182.0 - because of the field notices linked below.  The link to 8.5.182.12 is also below.

Hi,

I cannot see 8.2.182.7 for 2504. Is it not support 2504 ?

That is 8.2.182.0, not 8.2.182.7.

- 8.5.182.7 does support 2504.
- 8.5.182.7 is a special download at
https://software.cisco.com/download/specialrelease/8f166c6d88b9f77aabb63f78affa9749
- 8.5.182.7 has been superseded by 8.5.182.11 so if you're upgrading then you should be upgrading to 8.5.182.11 not 8.5.182.7
- 8.5.182.11 is also a special download at
https://software.cisco.com/download/specialrelease/2702eede2b47a5c3bb40795bbe836af6

Note that the 2504 WLC is end of support:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/2504-wireless-controller/eos-eol-notice-c51-740645.html
and AireOS 8.5 is end of life:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/8500-series-wireless-controllers/bulletin-c25-744139.html
So Cisco no longer release any standard maintenance releases for these products.

Greetings,

I have acquired the 2504 WLC and would like to upgrade it to the latest security level possible together with the five 3602I APs.

I understand that the 2504 is EOL & EOS and that I cannot download the software without a valid contract.

Regardless, the WLC and AP combination can go up to release 8.5.182.0. But 8.5.182.0 should not be used but instead 8.5.182.7. That in turn has also been replaced by 8.5.182.11. But now 8.5.182.11 is no longer supporting the 2504 WLC?

So what should I try and do? How can I actually get to release 8.5.182.x?

Thank you

Hi Rich,

Yes I know. The following is what I was planning but anyway I heve been declined from TAC.

-7.3.101.0
-Install Release 2.0.0.0 of Cisco Wireless LAN Controller Field Upgrade Software
-7.3.101.0 >> 8.3.150.0
-8.3.150.0 >> 8.5.131.0
-8.5.131.0 >> 8.5.182.0 (latest supported)

OMG - that is one very neglected WLC!!!!
But I'd suggest a different path:
-7.3.101.0
-Install Release 2.0.0.0 of Cisco Wireless LAN Controller Field Upgrade Software
-7.3.101.0 >> 8.0.152.0
-8.0.152.0 >> 8.3.150.0
-8.3.150.0 >> 8.5.182.11

Yes, getting all those downloads is going to be tricky if you don't have a Cisco partner/supplier who can help you.

For the latest version with security vulnerability updates - there is an option:
Find a recent security advisory that affects 8.5 code and find the section which says "Customers without Contracts" then email TAC (don't phone) quoting the URL of the advisory, the paragraph just mentioned and the version and URL https://software.cisco.com/download/specialrelease/2702eede2b47a5c3bb40795bbe836af6  for the software you want to download and serial number of your WLC.  You'll have to mention which platform you need it for (2504) because they have all of them there at that URL.  Then TAC should publish it to you directly.  This advisory should be suitable: Cisco Wireless LAN Controller AireOS Software FIPS Mode Denial of Service Vulnerability
