Hello Friedns,

I have a Cisco AP C9xxx series with EWC-AP capable OS.

Now I want to convert it to Capwap AP only without EWC capable.

I already tried to do some solution such as execute command "ap-type capwap" or "archirve download-sw ..." to convert AP to capwap but it still have EWC-AP capable.

Is there anyone has experiences on this case?

Thanks.

Convert EWC Back To Lightweight CAPWAP Mode

If the AP running in EWC mode needs to be converted back to lightweight CAPWAP mode, it can be done via:

AP1#ap-type capwap
AP is the Master AP, system will need a reboot when ap type is changed to CAPWAP
. Do you want to proceed? (y/N) y

Important: This command performs a complete factory reset of both the AP and EWC partition. Make sure to back up the current EWC configuration before conversion.

When you did the conversion, what is your "show version" command output? Do you still see "AP Configuration : EWC-AP CAPABLE"?

The easy way to make this AP work as CAPWAP AP is "The EWC process of the AP never boots if there is an existing AireOS, 9800 or Mobility Express or EWC controller in the same broadcast domain (VLAN)."

Hi

I have one EWC AP.Now I want to join 2 AP which has CAP/WAP Image. Directly if i connect 2 CAP/WAP Image APs in a switch with AP with EWC Image all configuration will be pushed ? or I have to convert 2 CAP/WAP Image to EWC Then to join.

Yes the CAPWAP APs can join the EWC as long as they are compatible as subordinate APs according to the table in the release notes (you haven't said what the AP models are or what version of code you're using).  But the subordinate APs must be running the same version of code as the EWC otherwise they will need to download the image from a TFTP server which you have set in the EWC config.  So you need to configure the TFTP server details on the EWC (so EWC can direct the AP to the TFTP server for image download) and you need to extract the correct image on the TFTP server ready for download by the AP.

The only way I have found to completely remove the EWC software is to use the re-flash process at:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/catalyst-9120axi-access-point/217537-repairing-c9120-c9115-access-points-from.html

This ensures it cannot unexpectedly re-activate when you don't want it to.

Short of that you can also refer to how to use option 43:
