Cisco AIR-AP1815W-B-K9 console adapter

Not applicable

We just bought 103 of these 1815w access points.

The AP has a miniature connector for the console port.

The documentation says there is a custom 4-pin connector for the console AIR-CONSADPT=.

I cannot find this connector anywhere on the Cisco site.

Is available to purchase?  Or is there an alternative adapter?

Ever find one? I can't get the things to come online and of course no console adapter to figure out why

I hope they seriously haven't provided the necessary means to configure the APs from out of the box =/. Your local Cisco reseller should be able to provide them for you.

Kevin - Which hurdle are you encountering with the initial setup of the APs, are they not joining your WLC?

Correct, they are not joining.  I finely put one on a port and mirrored it and saw the communicating with the WLC. The packets to the WLC were showing malformed.

Do you see the AP Joins on the WLC? (Monitor -> Stats -> AP Join). Is there a reason for the failure? Can you also debug capwap events via the CLI as it may provide you some useful data.

What code are you running on your WLC and are the APs traversing a firewall or are they fairly local to the WLC? In fact if you can could you post a show sysinfo of your WLC?

Cheers,

Ric

I show nothing on AP Join for them at all.

They are on the same exact layer 2 at this time as this particular controler :(

Cool you need to update your code to 8.3.112.0 at least:

Hopefully that'll get em going!

To funny! I just did a debug and found

*spamApTask3: Aug 24 08:03:56.309: 70:70:8b:9e:01:60 ApModel: AIR-AP1815W-B-K9K9

*spamApTask3: Aug 24 08:03:56.309: Unknown AP type. Using Controller Version!!!

So that explains it, they don't like my WLC :(  I guess I will have to upgrade the code tonight

Upgraded the WLC tonight and now the AP's associate and work, however I can't seem to figure out how to get them to output POE on eth1 like they say they will.  I have a phone plugged into one of them and no luck what so ever.

Cisco have made this tricky, why not add this to the deployment guide or 8.3 config guide! You need to add the AP to an AP Group (will cause reboot) then enable the PoE-out via the AP Group:

Ric,

Your awesome my friend! I have it feeding power now, the phone comes up but can't seem to reach anything. I find it semi odd because I can without issues if I take the CAT5 out of the phone and plug it into my PC it works just fine, I get a DHCP IP address and everything works.. Does the switch port need to be configured as a trunk?

Glad it works.. sort of!

What's the current switchport config? You will need to configure the RLAN to switch locally to allow the phone to egress on the voice VLAN at that switchport otherwise it will centrally switch via the WLC and won't get picked up as a phone.

Going back to the main topic, AIR-CONSADPT= is orderable.

If you ordered one and did not receive it, please open a TAC case.

I would recommend to contact your reseller or account team.

Note: This AP is supported on 8.4 and 8.5. Please refer to the link below
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html#pgfId-147346

Wow, yes, that is SO helpful.  A proprietary connector requiring an adapter priced at several times the hardware cost which in turn requires you to use a 1980's type serial connector coupled to a serial-to-USB adapter so you can finally plug into something that DOESN'T belong in a museum.

I have four 1815W's; was I supposed to receive one of the adapters with them?
