cisco air-ap3802i-e-k9 working environment

Hello guys,

Would like to know if the AP can be installed outdoor, knowing that we have a bad weather. So i checked the datasheet but still no information "ipx".

Thank you.

That ap is indoor use only. The 3802p is also an indoor access point but is approved to have antennas outdoor. The “p” is compliant for outdoor wireless per the regulatory domain restrictions. These can be in an enclose that fits your needs. The 3802e is not approved for outdoor wireless, again per the regulatory domain as it’s not approved. Max TX is the difference for example for the ap to be in compliance.
Cisco does have outdoor rates access points, that is what you need to look into.

It is more expensive to put the 3802e outdoors because it is not weather- nor water-proof.
If you want an AP that can withstand the weather then look at the 1542- or the 1562-series of outdoor APs.

I have a couple of 3702s that are outside in weatherproof enclosures.  They have been fine for many years now.

There are many whom use the external enclosure and that works like you mentioned, but you need an enclosure. Cisco has a “p” model that is suppose to be used if antennas are located outside. They no longer recommend using an “e” module when you have antennas located outside. Basically if the antenna has line of site with the sky you are suppose to use the “p” model as that is approved for outdoor, the “e” is not.
