Cisco CAP3702i Web GUI does not work

Hi all,

I have just purchased a CAP3702i access point to get myself into the .11ac era and this seemed like a good candidate to replace my C1142n. I have reflashed it from lightweight to standalone mode via the mode button method, and I can talk to it and configure it just fine. However, the Web GUI does not seem to work at all. I have done the usual ip http server and ip http secure-server commands as on every prior device, and the web server answers, but only with a blank page. When I do a show-source, I see a ton of javascript variables and stuff, but this javascript links to some files (config.js, frameHome.html, banner.html) which return 404 errors. It seems there is something wrong with the internal web server, but I can't really debug what. terminal monitor and debug ip http all show me that the requests are handled ok.

I have tried current Firefox, IE11, Edge and Chrome, and they all fail to render any page.
I have reinstalled the firmware (ap3g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JC3 is the newest I could get my hands on, which doesn't look that old to me) with the /erase option to make sure I have a clean installation.
I have poked around on the flash filesystem, and there is the /html and its /level/1 and /level/15 folders inside the firmware folder. There's a ton of html and gz files in there, but if I try to access any of them via the browser, I get 404s.
If this was a PC, I would guess there is some permission issue on the files or something like that.

Can anyone shed some light on this issue, or point me into a direction for further debugging?

I have done it according to just the guide you linked, with the full TAR file.
The files are there, i can see them with dir flash: but the webserver doesn't seem to find them.

However, I found that the ap3g2-k9w7-xx.153-3.JH release of IOS can be downloaded without a service contract,
(due to it being a security fix release) so I have just archive download-sw'ed this one onto the 3702i and now the web GUI works fine.
It seems that there was something broken in the JC3 release, or at least in my tar file.

Hi @wooshell

do you convert the AP IOS with .bin file or .tar? If only you change the .bin file, all the legacy http directory not replace.

For change all ios and http directory do you need upgrade with .tar file

mrncciew, have a post with this example

what release notes security patch had? I am thinking .. it could be related to vulnerable TLS/SSL disabled in your browser. And security patch used nonvulnerable ciphers.. maybe

Hello, can you share which files/folder have you copied from the ap3g2-k9w7-xx.153-3.JH release to the new firmware?

Thank you

none. I installed the whole ap3g2-k9w7-xx.153-3.JH release as it comes from the Cisco download center. i do not know how to adapt this process to any newer release, as i do not have the hardware anymore.

thank you

I have come across this issue as well, what I had to was to download a different browser to access the gui. microsoft edge for some strange reason is blocking access to port 80 on the device which the gui uses,  I eventually got into my access point and changed the http port number from port 80 to 8080 and then to my suprised edge was able to give me the login prompt.
