Question for the group....
Is Airmagnet still the Cisco preferred wireless site survey tool?
How does Ekahau rate in comparison these days?
I have lots of experience in both (although I haven't used Ekahau for about 5 years now). I prefer Airmagnet, but maybe Ekahau is "better" now?
Is there an alternative to these 2 tools that Cisco has "endorsed"?
Measurements needed in any alternate tools are typical... heat maps, interference, data rates, signal strengths, ability to plan and simulate, etc...
Thanks!

Hello,
I think it all depends on who you ask. I know a few folks internal at Cisco who like both and support both. I have seen documents using "pixs" AriMagnet and recently from Ekahau. I personally think both are good tools. Like you, I use AM mainly.

Hi all,
Coming back to this old, but important subject.
You may or may not have seen / heard that things have changed in the industry quite a bit. See, for example http://www.ekahau.com/wifidesign/testimonials or ask on Twitter.
In the last 18 months, we've added over 250 improvements into our tool, much thanks to Cisco engineers and CIsco partners. We're very thankful for having invited as presenters at the last SEVT and PVT as well.
If you'd like to discuss this further, or try our new stuff out, let me know. Or, let's talk at the next PVT or Cisco Live.
Sorry for having my marketing hat on, but I feel this is an important subject.

Jussi,
Your product may be well-known in some countries but I sure know it's not known in Australia/New Zealand area.
Every time I go to Cisco Live Melbourne (since 2011), I always see AirMagnet. Maybe it's time for your company to go out and get more exposure.

Hi Leo,
Thank you for the comments. I agree, we need to increase our exposure in the Asian market. We are seriously considering CL Melbourne for 2016.
In addition, we have just this month strengthened our team in the APAC region (both tech and sales).
If you'd like to talk more about this, I'd be happy to. My e-mail: jussi@ekahau.com.
Thanks,
J

Ok, Jussi. E-mail sent ... and an out-of-office response received.

Jussi will take care of you Leo! I'm a very happy Ekahau user.

Thanks Blake. Will be organizing with them for a conference call. :)

I prefer AirMagnet but have also seen some pretty good things with Ekahau as well. I would recommend next time you have to perform a survey, request a demo of the Ekahau software and give it a try.

I would love to get exposure to AirMagnet, but how is that even remotely possible with what these vendors charge for their tools.
Frustrating.
