What exact firmware is the WLC running on?

Attach a console cable and watch what happens. It should log a crashfile and description when crashing. I assume you are running an old firmware with some bug though. 

If it's an older WLC (not of the 9800 generation) you find the crash information under Management -> Tech Support -> Controller Crash.

 - Look at the current software version , if applicable and feasible upgrade to an advisory release for the particular controller platform. check if the problem remains in place or not.
