Cisco WLC 2504 issue after restart.

Hello All,

My WLC 2504 doesn't show the WLAN Profile name after restart the hardware; so none of the APs are able to join the WLC. The issue started with the version 8.0.140.0; so I tried to upgrade to version 8.0.152.0 and still the issue persists. At the same time under the WLANs tab of the controller the Profile configuration exists.  I cannot upgrade the WLC to higher version as I need to accommodate APs 1130, 1700 and 2700 series together.

Anyone has any idea about it ?

Attached some pics of WLC GUI Tabs.

Thanks

Cleetus

Pls check your WLC got correct time "show time" CLI command.

If time is accurate, I would check any APs facing below issue

I am sure it is due to internal battery drain. I have same issue with my home lab 2504 & have to set time manually every time I power cycle it.

Hi Rasika,

Looks you are right. 👍
I just checked the system time after restart, which is seen in the screen
shot I have attached earlier and now here as well. The time shows in 2000
year. lol . Since I was not affordable to a downtime of WLC, I had reset
and reconfigured the WLC yesterday itself. I am sure that the " Time" was
the villain.

Thanks again.

Good to see you managed to get it working. "Time" is most critical setting when it comes to AP registration as those AP has MIC-certificate that has a validity period. If WLC time is not fall within that, APs are having hard time to register.

keep that in mind for future. There are many other reason for AP not able to register. Following document cover most of it. You will see point # 1 is "Time" setting.

Thanks Rasika.
But what could be the reason for the WLC to fall back the time after
restart ? Is it may be due to the internal battery or something same as to
the desktop hardware?
