Which interface on the WLC do I have to configure to make a connection from my laptop to the WLC

Well,

You can plug in the console port with a serial connection and use hyperterminal, terraterm, minicom,etc

or connect to the service port over ip and use telnet (if enabled) or ssh

or connect via browser

you can make connection between laptop and wlc via service port of wlc after configure service port with ip and you can open it by web browser https:// ip add of service port.

If you have not configured a different address on the service port. Use the default address of 192.168.1.1 to gain access. Make sure that your pc is setup with a static address in that subnet. To run the setup wizard the first time you use http after the first reboot the controller uses https for a secure session.

First of all, you will have to console in to confiugre the WLC. It is the management IP address you will use to configure via gui the WLC if on the network. Or else like the others stated, use the service port and connect your laptop to that with a static ip address.
