Configuring Air-CAP3602I-A-K9

I was given a couple of Air-CAP3602I-A-K9, that are already configured. I did not get the controller that they were setup with. I had to get one, it is cisco 2500 series. This is my first time trying to setup AP using a controller and I am running into an issue I can't figure out. So, any help would be appreciated. I believe I have the controller set up correct, but the AP can't find the controller, I get the message, when I telnet into the AP, that the IP is either incorrect or not setup. If I hit the esc key during the AP boot, I can get the AP login, but I do not have the username nor password, nor can I get it. I am guessing that from the error message I am getting, I need to configure the controller with the same IP setting the AP has already. So, my question is, is there a way to clear the configuration of AP so it can be setup again? Or is there a way I can see what IP address the AP have so I can configure the controller with it? Thanks.

AP got a reset button, press & hold reset button (~20seconds) while powering the AP. That will reset the AP to factory default. Once you do that, connect it to DHCP enabled switch port. AP should get an IP address and you should be able to SSH using that IP (Cisco/Cisco is the default username password, Enable Secret also Cisco).

Once AP got IP address & you able to SSH, then try to ping WLC management IP address from AP. You should have IP reachability before registering it to WLC. You can type below CLI command on AP to point it to your WLC statically.

capwap ap primary-base <WLC_NAME> <WLC_Mgmt_IP>

That is the basic method, if you get access to AP CLI. Other methods described by Kasun also valid options. Read below post on AP registration

1st option - keep AP and WLC in same ip range. so AP will find WLC using discover michanism.

2nd option - configure DHCP option 43 and let APs get IP form DHCP. so AP will use IP configured under Option 43 as a WLC.

3rd option - configure WLC ip statically inside the AP.

Also you need to make sure time/date, country code are correct in WLC.

First, thanks for the help. I guess before I go further. I would like to know if since the AP's have already been configured by a different controller, then the one I am using, can they still be setup and used on the controller I have? If yes, then here is where i am stuck at with this error message on the AP :Not in Bound state.
*Mar 1 00:22:49.262: %CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC. Either IP ad dress is not assigned or assigned IP is wrong. Renewing DHCP IP.
I am a novice at setting up networks, I can follow directions, but not always sure at what I am doing.  So forgive me if I don't word things correctly. Like I said, I have 2 Air-CAP3602I-A-KP That were set up already at a different location. I have no idea what their settings are. I can telnet into them through the console port, but I don't really know what I can do in there. I did setup, I believe correctly, a cisco 2500 controller. I enable DHCP and set the time and date, from what I read, and understood When the AP is connected to the controller and it is found, the controller then sets up the AP. So, what am I missing?

Hi,

I don't think you will be able to telnet to the AP if it doesn't have an IP. I believe you are talking about accessing it via console?

If yes, please follow @Kasun Bandara advise. Also make sure that the AP management VLAN has access to the WMI port of the WLC.

It is recommended that you follow the below FN's as this could cause an issue as well.

yes, I meant telnet into the AP through the console port. I started a session, but I did not or couldn't find any messages about the certificates being expired. Any thoughts?

So, my question is, is there a way to clear the configuration of AP so it can be setup again? Or is there a way I can see what IP address the AP have so I can configure the controller with it?
